A student can study to be a registered nurse (RN), licensed practical nurse (LPN), or a certified nursing assistant (CNA). The different nursing roles carry unique educational requirements, sets of responsibilities, and compensation.
Registered nurses primarily direct many aspects of patient care. RNs lead teams of more junior nursing staff in their senior role. Ohio RNs must complete a state-approved pre-approval program and pass the NCLEX-RN license test before practicing in the state.
Although licensed practical nurses are more junior than RNs, they can still carry out many crucial health care tasks.
LPNs provide injections, monitor medical equipment, dress patient wounds, and record vital signs. Before practicing, Ohio’s LPNs must graduate from an accredited certificate program and pass the NCLEX-PN national licensure exam.
An assistant nurse or nurse aide assists the sick, injured, elderly and sick with primary medical care. Ohio CNAs only need to complete a short training program and pass state certification tests to obtain a license.
LPNs work in hospitals, doctor’s offices, health clinics, podiatry offices, convalescent homes, dental offices, and elder retirement facilities. LPNs work under a registered nurse (R.N) or a doctor and provide the majority of direct patient care while following the guidelines set forth by the supervisor.

LPNs might be in charge of prepping patients before undergoing a medical procedure. A good combination of training that is very hands-on. Teachers are very accommodating and willing to help you if you do not understand the material. Testing is every Friday. Have other classes to build on while you’re getting your CCHA.

Expensive for the same pay in OH as someone not certified. If you have experience, do not worry about getting the certification. They don’t offer any assistance grants, loans, scholarships, etc., so you pay cash!
