8 Nightmares Only Nursing Students Have (I Totally Still Have #5 Regularly) | NURSING.com

Written by Heather Hawkins | 7-Jul

Ok we have all been there….waking up in a cold sweat from a terrible nightmare….Go to tell you friend or significant other about it and they just don’t understand.  They aren’t dealing with the real life nightmare of nursing school…

Why are you screaming in your sleep?!

Why did you wake up crying?!

Seriously that was your worst nightmare?!

Don’t worry you’re not alone….WE understand!

Now tell us…have you had one of these?! Or have they been worse?

1.  Running Late to Clinical

And now your UP and it’s 3 am and you still have 4 hours till clinical actually starts….Total nightmare since most schools will FAIL you if you run late to ONE clinical!

2.  Forgetting to Wear Underwear with Your White Scrub Pants

EMBARRASING

3.  You Forgot to Chart That you Turned a Patient

If you didn’t chart it….it didn’t happen….and you FAIL!

4. Clinical Instructor Asks you to Insert an IV when you Have Only Gone Over BED BATHS….

Don’t get it on your first stick……you FAIL

5.  Forgetting You Were Enrolled in a Class

Six weeks into the semester and you just realized that you are failing OB bc you have not been to a single lecture and missed 4 tests

6.  “Pop” Quiz

Everyone else is prepared for a test that was listed on the syllabus except for you…..now your just trying to “wing it” through ABGs (as if you can just wing ABGs)

7. You Gave Room 2 Room 1’s Meds

Now the instructor is calling a code….all hell is breaking loose….you have no idea what to do…and you FAIL!

8.  Spilled Coffee on Your White Scrubs

Now you have to stop for new ones which in turn leads you back to nightmare #1 – being late for clinical….and you FAIL

Conclusion

Rest assured that these nightmares are legit and we all have had them…multiple times.  When you are living, eating, and breathing nursing while going through school it 100% normal for your fears to seep into your subconscious.

I would love to tell you that the nightmares disappear after you graduate, pass NCLEX, and become a nurse…..but honestly, they just change to a whole new set of sleeping hell….more on that later

For now…SWEET DREAMS and HAPPY NURSING!
